CHINHOYI Municipality has offered a 50 percent discount on rates to encourage residents to clear their arrears and boost revenue. The discount promotion started at the beginning of the month and is expected to end on October 31.

Ratepayers, including residents, companies and Government owe Chinhoyi at least $40 million.

In a statement yesterday, the Chinhoyi Municipality spokesperson Mr Tichaona Mlauzi said the promotion was targeting service charges and rates only.

“We are pleased to inform our residents, institutions and the stakeholders of a 50 percent payment debt relief for the coming 60 days, commencing 1st September 2018,” he said.

The promotion, he said would also benefit ratepayers with up-to-date accounts, who were expected to pay half the amounts on their current bills.

Mr Mlauzi encouraged residents to take advantage of the promotion to clear their arrears and help council to improve service delivery.

“All customers with paid up accounts will also enjoy the 50 percent incentive on their current bills.

“Residents expect quality service delivery, but it will not be possible without them paying for it,” he said.

“We are encouraging residents to pay so that we can improve the quality of service that we offer them.”
