RISING Afro pop singer, Karen Rutendo Murefu, has conceded it is hard for female artists to make it to the top in showbiz.
The 23-year-old, who uses the moniker Gyal Kaylie, says her musical journey has not been an easy one.
She believes her stunted growth was as a result of lack of exposure despite being talented.
Murefu boasts of a rich catalogue of singles, which has made her a celebrity in the Mashonaland West capital.
These include Never Give Up, Moyo Wangu, Working Hard, Honai, Zvaitika a cover version by James Chimombe, Too Scared, among others.
In an interview with H-Metro, Kaylie opened up about her musical journey.
“I started recording with Cashflow while director Divalex helped me with the visuals.
“I have also worked with other producers, including Cashlibs, Elshamah TP and Mikelah.
“It has not been an easy road, yet I’m still here and standing tall.
“I’m still a raw gem that needs polishing as I believe the time is now ripe for exposure and recognition,” said Murefu.
She said her dream was to record a full album.
“I am yet to record an album but plans are already on course.
“Last year, I released an Extended Playlist, which carries six songs.
“It was produced by Cashflow, while other songs are in singles,” said Murefu.
The Afro pop singer dreams of sharing the stage with some of the established artists.
“I am looking forward to sharing the stage with Tamy Moyo and Boi Shona,” said Murefu.
“At first, my mom probably thought I was doing that for fun but later realised that I was actually serious and became my pillar of strength.
“Those who are into drugs think drugs will boost their creativity yet they are digging their own graves.”
