A PENALTY settled the Mashonaland West Derby with Chinhoyi Stars edging MWOS 1-0 in a ZIFA Northern Region Division One match on Saturday.
Milton Tembo converted the spot kick.
Chinhoyi Stars vice-chairman, Kainos Gwazeni, said there was still a lot of work to be done.
“The match was very good. However, we still need a lot of work to do especially on our strike force,” said Gwazeni.
“We are very confident that we will gain promotion into the Premier League.
“We have the backing of our supporters, including stakeholders such as the Municipality of Chinhoyi, who want us to win the league,
“We need to beef up our strike force.”
Coach Richard Chunga said it was a tough battle. We were second on the ball in the first half and after the breather, the visitors played with a sense of urgency. We tried to catch them on the counter and, with these quick breaks, we managed to create chances that led to the penalty,”
MWOS coach, Wonder Ngoko, said he was happy with his team’s show.
“I think we played very well but lacked concentration,” said Ngoko. “I think we made a blunder inside the box when our defender handled, which led to the penalty.”
