MUSICAL producer and multi-instrumentalist, Gibson Makumbe, has struck gold.

Makumbe, who is set to wrap up his South African recording tour this week, has been recording a number of Zimbabwean musicians across the Limpopo since March.

After winning the hearts of many Zimbabwean musicians in South Africa, Makumbe decided to tour the neighbouring country to meet a number of artists there.

“I came here at the end of March for a recording tour.

“This is the first time I have conducted this tour in South Africa where a number of Zimbabweans artists stay.

“I have been recording artists in Joburg, Pretoria, Durban and now I am looking forward to traveling to Port Elizabeth.

“During my stint here, I also shared the stage with Mambo Dhuterere in Cape Town.

“I was humbled by the love and faith that I got from fans here in South Africa,” he said.

Makumbe, who runs VOT Studios in Harare, said he was homesick despite striking gold in South Africa.

“The tour was an eye-opener and I can’t complain to be honest.

“I saw the hand of the Lord who has been providing for me.

“I am happy that the tour paid off and it afforded me a great opportunity to meet some of the people I have been working with over the years.

“I have also managed to understand some of the challenges they are facing here.

“However, I am homesick and can’t wait to be in Zimbabwe any time this week,” he said.

Makumbe is one of the most sought-after producers, who has been working with both seasoned and upcoming artists.

He is also at home when it comes to the production of the work of artists from other genres.

Makumbe has also been working with sungura,  rhumba  and jazz musicians.

He is biased towards gospel music production.

To date, he has toured Botswana, South Africa and Malawi.

Plans are underway for the UK tour that will cement his relationship with musicians based in that country.
