A 39-year-old Harare woman has appeared in court over a US$1,2 million dagga consignment intercepted last week, with prosecutors alleging she was part of a syndicate linked to a haulage truck driver already on remand in connection with the same case.

Everjoy Concillia Chipfiko appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Musaiona Shortgame on Saturday facing charges of dealing with dangerous drugs.

She was remanded to today after her lawyer challenged her placement on remand.

The State alleges that on June 1, 2026, police received information that Chipfiko was expecting a consignment of dagga that was being transported from Beitbridge to Harare by Thapson Ndou, a truck driver who has since been arrested over the issue.

Ndou was reportedly driving a 30-tonne haulage truck towing a trailer carrying a metal container loaded with the contraband.

Acting on the tip-off, police intercepted the truck in Southerton, Harare.

Upon searching the container, police recovered sealed plastic packages containing compressed dagga.

The recovered dagga weighed 1 094,20 kilogrammes and had an estimated street value of US$1,2 million.

Ndou was arrested and taken into custody.

During questioning, Ndou allegedly implicated Chipfiko and four other suspects — Moses Chauke, Prosper Jena, Spiwe Chingindo and another identified only as Victoria — as the owners of the consignment.

The four are still at large.

The court heard that Chipfiko, who was allegedly driving a Toyota Quantum that was to be used as a gateway vehicle, fled the scene upon realising Ndou had been arrested.

Chipfiko was arrested on June 12, 2026, at her residence in Mapako, Chinhoyi.
