Chinotimba appeals

Buhera South constituency member of the National Assembly, Cde Joseph Chinotimba is appealing to public transporters using the Harare–Buhera route to change their night operating hours to help villagers in the area avoid further hyena attacks. This follows recent incidents in the constituency where three people were severely attacked by hyenas and have been recovering in hospital.

In an interview, Cde Chinotimba said that the odd hours during which the buses operate are leaving the people vulnerable to attacks since they have to go to bus stops as early as 2am.

“Wild animals have always been a problem in Buhera but the situation is worsened if a person has to be at the bus stop as early as 2 in the morning. If buses change their operating hours, it then safeguards people from more attacks”, said Cde Chinotimba.

“It is important for bus operators to revise their timetable because either way they will still make money. If people continue to be attacked, I will continue the lobby,” he said.

“Buhera received very little rains during the last season and so these hyenas have nothing to prey on since people are no longer leaving their livestock unattended at night. Since the hunger is affecting everyone, I am urging people who go out looking for baobab fruit to desist from doing so in the evenings since hyenas are on the loose.”
