Monomotapa crumbled in a shocking manner in the opening 25 minutes of the game and in the end conceded what is arguably the quickest goal seen at the colliery when Chinyengetere found the net just after 20 seconds.
Dreadlocked midfielder Nkosana Siwela, one of last year’s Soccer Star of the Year finalists, beat Hillary Mugoniwa for speed near the corner flag before crossing for Chinyengetere who obliged by powering a header past a badly exposed Joram Muchambo.
The visitors had just got their first chance of the game through a freekick which was skied by Brian Mapfumo on the quarter hour mark before Hwange doubled their advantage in the 18th minute.
Siwela was once again involved when he won possession deep in the Monoz half before releasing leftback David Boriwondo whose inch perfect cross was headed in by the Hwange captain to leave the drum beating home fans wild.
Five minutes later more Monoz misery followed as Malvern Longwe roasted Jimmy Tigere on the right flank before finding an unmarked Chinyengetere who registered his hattrick with another flashing header which left Muchambo clutching thin air.
Before the home fans had finished celebrating, Chinyengetere turned from executor to provider in the 25th minute when he sent in a defence splitting cross which was headed in by an on-rushing Siwela.
Seeing his long trip from Harare turn into a horror show in front of his eyes, Monoz coach Taurai Mangwiro made a double substitution, dragging out Wonder Kapinda and Tigere for Makai Kawashu and Russell Madamombe respectively in the 30th minute.
Hwange were not finished as they continued pouring forward and it was Muchambo who did a lot of damage control by denying big striker Francisco Zvikumbawire and Siwela in one-on-one situations as the visitors continued missing in action.
However 10 minutes from the breather, Monoz suddenly decided to do justice to the league sponsors by doing what they had travelled all the way from the capital to do — play football as they rose from dead to grab a consolation goal in the 37th minute.
This was after substitutes Kawashu and Madamombe combined well in the Hwange half before the latter crossed for Joseph Mutambiranwa whose hard and low shot beat Timothy Sibanda, who was impressive in between the posts for the coalminers the entire game.
Monomotapa then started to play with a lot of purpose as they twice came close to reducing the deficit before the breather. The second half started in the same fashion as Monoz started playing with their tails up and it was evident the hosts just needed a goal to deflate the visitors’ ego.
And when the goal to put the final nail into the Monomotapa coffin came in the 56th minute, it was a beauty from the Hwange captain which left him a cult hero in the stadium. He got at the end of lovely pass from Longwe deep in the Monoz half before waltzing his way past Brian Katsarawure before surprising Muchambo with a ferocious volley which hit the roof of the nets.
It was simply sheer brilliance from Chinyengetere who continued to be a bag of snakes for the Monomotapa defence each time he was in possession, and it was only some extraordinary piece of goalkeeping by the Monoz goalie that denied Chinyengetere more than a half dozen goals.
As much as the visitors tried to come back into the game through some inspirational play revolving around Ronald Chitiyo, their fate had long been sealed by a catastrophic display in the opening 25 minutes.
Hwange’s win ensured they quickly bounced back to winning ways after a 1-0 loss to Highlanders at Barbourfields last Sunday.
Hwange technical manager Tennant Chilumba showered praises on his lads after the game.
“It was a good performance by the boys especially after the loss to Highlanders last week. We will continue to fight to garner more points as the league progresses,” he said.
Monomotapa’s Taurai Mangiro praised Hwange for the good show.
“It seemed whatever Hwange touched turned into gold as we played badly especially in the first half. It’s a lesson for us and I would also like to pay tribute to Rodwell Chinyengetere for his sterling performance,” he said.
