Chademana retires from police force

Insp Chademana joined the police force in September 1981 as a patrol officer. He officially retired as a police officer on 29 April this year.

Insp Chademana’s 31-year police career saw him doing duty in different parts of the country. He also went on peacekeeping missions in Kosovo where he served his country with distinction.

In an interview, Insp Chademana said on joining the police force, he was posted to Bulawayo Central Police Station at a time when whites were leaving the force in large numbers.

“I was quickly transferred to Queens Park Police Station before being posted to Inyathi in the same year. I also worked in Zvishavane at the District HQ as a clerk in 1984 before being transferred to Gweru Central in June 1987.

In July of the same year, I was on the move again, this time to Charandura under Chirumanzu area as Member-in-Charge of the local police post. In 1991, I was backin Gweru as community relations officer for Gweru Central,” he said.

In 2004, Insp Chademana assumed the position of Midlands police spokesperson, a position he held for eight years until he retired last month.

He said he was proud to have served the police force for 31 years with such distinction.

Insp Chademana said he helped shape the organisation through good publicity and engaging in other duties that helped members of the public gain confidence in the police force.

“Some of my career highlights  are that I have managed to market the organisation in the province through such fora like the Service Charter launches, and the Midlands Agricultural Show where we always won some awards in the uniformed forces category. I also acted as advisor to the officer commanding police Midlands and his district commanders as well. I am grateful to the police force for the time I spent in the organisation. Mine was a career without incidents or scandals as I always thrived to be as professional as I possibly could,” said Insp Chademana.

Insp Chademana has already moved to a new job, that of security officer at the Midlands State University.

He is also a successful farmer who specialises in cattle ranching.

Insp Chademana was born in Masvingo’s Mshagashe purchase area, near Makoholi Experimental Station.

He is married to Samukeliso Lusinga and the couple has two children, a girl and a boy.
