Chipadze win invitational tourney

The hosts got the solitary goal through exciting young forward Simbarashe Usai soon after the interval.
Chipadze had progressed to the final after a 2-0 demolition of Mutumba High School in the semi-finals.
Kundai had earlier on dismissed Gweshe High School 3-1 in the other semifinal.
It was Chipadze, the current holders of the NASH Championships, who went home smiling after pocketing US$200 and a soccer kit for their efforts.
Kundai were also rewarded with US$100 and a soccer kit for being the runnersup.
The losing semi finalists received soccer kits each with all the participating teams getting soccer balls for taking part in the tournament.
The tournament was being hosted for the first time and its organisers promised to host the event next year.
Sports Director for Chipadze, Raymond Gambiza, who was also the tournament’s coordinator, had a lot of praise for the youngsters.
“It was our first time hosting the tournament and we were very pleased with what we saw from the lads.
“The tournament will now be hosted annually and we are going to invite more schools from different provinces so that it will be more interesting.
“We have a lot of talent in our country and I think it’s a good way of identifying talent at grassroots level,” said Gambiza.
Meanwhile, Harare Northern district will on Friday host the Zonal Championships to select the schools that will take part at the 2011 NASH Championships to be held later this year.
The Under 20 tournament will be held at Allan Wilson High School while the Under 15 matches will be at Prince Edward.
Twelve schools from Harare’s 10 zones are expected to take part in the tournament.
Chipadze High School are the defending champions after beating Churchill in last year’s edition.
Churchill’s deputy sports director, Paul Kaunda, who is also tournament’s coordinator, said they were expecting an exciting tournament and urged people to come and support the youngsters.
“It’s going to be an exciting tournament and we are encouraging all soccer lovers to come in their numbers and watch the youngsters play football.
“I think coaches should also take advantage of the tournaments to come and identify talent at grassroots level,” said Kaunda.
The tournament will also feature the Under15 and Under20 girls’ teams who will also be representing Harare in the girls’ category during the NASH championships.
