ONE of the oldest and lyrically gifted musicians in Zimbabwe, Hosiah Chipanga, is in a bid to revive his waning music career by staging a number of shows in Mutare and beyond starting from this weekend.
If the truth be told, Kwachu Kwachu, as Chipanga is referred to by his legion of fans, has not been getting the deserved recognition and respect he deserves despite the fact that he is one of the exceptional song writers who tackles social issues affecting our day-to-day lives.
Although the MAPIPI church founder and prophet is currently riding high with his debut DVD album, Mabasa, the aging artiste said he was out to date his fans again after a sabbatical in whirlwind tours.
The expedition will start at popular entertainment centre, Club Mandisa where he will be performing as the main act on Sunday.
Chipanga who will be backed by his trusted lieutenants, Vaparidzi Veshoko, said in an interview, that he was pleased that local promoters still had confidence in him.
“I am glad that our own promoters are showing confidence in us. It is disheartening that some of them have faith in Harare-based artistes, yet Mutare has an avalanche of artistes who need their support. We will be performing at various entertainment centres and Mandisa will be our first port of call. Our band is still intact and we are raring to go. We can’t wait to meet our die-hard fans yet again,” he said.
He said he was working on a new album set to be released before the end of year. He is currently riding high with the album Mumweya.
