Pathway Primary School and others are set to take part at the event. In an interview with Cool Lifestyle, Chipawo’s manager, Chipo Basopo, said the stage was set for the celebrations.
“I urge everyone to come and support the children performances in commemorating World Day of Theatre. The day is commemorated on March 20 in more than 80 countries by theatre groups which are members of the International Association of Theatre for Children and Young People (ASSITEJ),” she said.
Chipo said children from Chipawo centres were expected to shine through music and dance as it was part of performing arts.
“Some of the plays are from our archives with the history of the organisation in support of the day. This is the best opportunity for the children and teens to express their talent. All age groups will be represented.
“We have also invited a guest of honour who is familiar in the theatre industry of which the person has an impact to children,” she said.
Chipo said having children engage in theatre is a good way of enabling the children to communicate with each other, exchanging views and experiences.
“Today children are showing their love for theatre as well as how children in the organisation are acquiring different theatre skills.
The manager added that theatre as a form of art can develop the nation through tourism.
“Come and witness some of the cultural performances by children of which they can go a long way in boosting our tourism sector. Isn’t it nice to have little children appreciating our cultural heritage and doing theatre,” she said.
Chipawo is a member of the Zimbabwe Association of Theatre for Children and Young People (ZATCP) which is the Zimbabwe Centre of ASSITEJ.
However, international messages for the day which have been written by the president of ASSITEJ Yvette Hardie will be read today.
