It’s the Battle of Dances

and Cranborne Boys’ High among others battling out in the hip-hop and break dance categories.
The winning school will represent Zimbabwe at a regional hip-hop dance festival in South Africa next month.

According to director and founder of Lyf Style Entertainment, Joshua Saunyama, the motive behind the initiative was to use dance as a tool to communicate.
“Our core business is to use dance as a tool to positively impact the youth and encourage them to use the energy positively hence developing themselves artistically,” he said.
Joshua said the winners of the show will have a chance not only to represent the country in South Africa, but learn various dancing skills.

“Tonight’s winners will represent Zimbabwe in Sun City, South Africa, on April 24 at the Battle of the Giants competition which will bring together thousands of global dancers.
“There will also attend a workshop where internationally known choreographers will give tips on dancing, learning various dance moves and, above all, it is also a cultural exchange program,” he said.

He said the competition will be graced by renowned judges and a vibrant master of ceremonies.
“Our panel of judges includes Lesesi Mzwimbi, who was trained in Australia; Nona Bismark from United States; and Leroy Moses, who all has a background in dancing and worked with international artistes.

I am sure it will be a success because all is going according to plan and I just urge everyone to be punctual so as not to miss the festival,” he said.
Joshua said some local teenage acts are also set to take centre stage as part of the show.

“All entertainers have confirmed and tonight Peter Royston is the master of ceremonies,” he said. Joshua said dancing is an important aspect in our day-to-day lives.
“Dance is one of the oldest forms of communication.

It’s therapeutic in giving the individual a way of expression without the use of words. In a group, dance also acts as a way of expressing important elements of a people or culture. For children, it also helps to develop co-ordination, rhythm and timing, it also taps into the brain’s ability to co-ordinate movement with sound,” he noted.

Lyfstyle Dance Studio was established six years ago, breaking barriers of hip-hop and contemporary world. It is believed that through the studio many dancers will have the opportunity to perform on international stages, in Cape Town, Durban, Pretoria, Gaborone, Francistown and Sun City among other towns.
The organisation has staged shows at Hifa among other notable events.
