Chipfumo celebrates 25 years in music

Entertainment Reporter

PROGRESS Chipfumo has lined up a series of shows as he continues to celebrate 25 years in the game.

The Sounds of Motherland leader has been holding a countrywide tour to mark this milestone.

On Friday, he returns to Harare where he is billed to make a stopover at City Sports Bar.

Event coordinator and family friend, Harpers Mapimhidze, confirmed the Harare leg.

“It feels like yesterday when Progress started music with Portia Gwanzura before he went solo.

“It is close to 25 years of him in the music industry and such a milestone is worth mentioning.

“What makes his journey worth mentioning is that he has also helped artists, among them Jah Prayzah when he was still a nonentity. This makes him a bit special to us,” he said.

Mapimhidze believes Chipfumo has matured with age.

“Like any other person, Chipfumo had his flaws but musically he is good.

“No matter what haters would say about him, you can’t bring a good man down.

“In Progress Chipfumo’s case, we need to honour him as one of the finest artists that we can learn from,” he said.

Over the years, Chipfumo has been releasing chart-toppers that have made him a darling of many.

Off the stage, he has had his problems with the law.
