AFRO-JAZZ and mbira musician, Hope Masike, held a tribute performance for Chiwoniso Maraire at Mutare Girls High on Monday.

It is Chiwoniso’s former school.

Hope also took the opportunity to inspire and uplift students while she is on her “book tour” in Manicaland.

The mbira princess is promoting her new book titled “Die With Me”.

The tour is a celebration of the three poetry books she has published so far.

These include “Ask Me Again”, “Dzevabvazera” and her latest offering “Die with Me”.

“Yesterday (Monday), we did a performance at Mutare Girls High, the former school of Chiwoniso Maraire. It was a heartfelt tribute to the legendary artist,” she said.

“The performance was not only a tribute to Maraire but also an opportunity to inspire and uplift the students, highlighting the power of passion, talent and dedication.

“The event was truly unforgettable, filling the air with the enchanting sounds of the mbira.”

She added:

“It was a heartfelt tribute to Chiwoniso Maraire, a trailblazing artist who has left an indelible mark on Zimbabwean music.

“As we continue to celebrate mbira month, let’s honour the incredible legacy of Chiwoniso Maraire and the beautiful music of Zimbabwe.

“May this performance inspire us all to embrace our passions and empower the next generation of artists.”
