A 20-year-old man from Gaza E, Chipinge, has been convicted and sentenced by the Chipinge Magistrates’ Court for threatening to kill his mother with a knife during a heated argument over food preparation.

According to the National Prosecution Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), the incident occurred on 4 June 2025, when the young man became enraged after his 42-year-old mother explained she couldn’t cook immediately due to attending to his disabled sibling.

“In a fit of rage, the young man demanded that food be cooked immediately. When his mother refused, he brandished a knife and threatened to kill her,” reads the statement.

The court found him guilty of threatening violence and handed down a suspended sentence of three months’ imprisonment, conditional on good behavior. Additionally, he was ordered to complete 315 hours of community service.
