Chipinge mourns two headmasters

Freedom Mutanda
CHIPINGE District lost two headmasters who died after short illnesses last week. The two, Mr Ancelot Dembaremba of Sterksrom Secondary School and Mr Michael Nkomo of Singizi Primary School have since been buried.

Mr Dembaremba (54) had graduated with a Bachelor of Education Degree at Bindura University of Science Education on a Friday, held a party on a Saturday and died on Monday morning at Sterksrom much to the agony and disbelief of fellow teachers and heads in the district.

He was buried at his rural home in Dora Pindo just outside Mutare.

Precious Gonyora, who studied with him at Mutare Teachers’ College from 1997 to 1999, described him as a very dedicated cadre to the teaching profession, down to earth, very kind and kind to the down trodden people.

‘’Ancelot was a present day Jairos Jiri. Imagine, he paid school fees for children who did not have the means and some of them stayed at his house.

“He had a big heart. Of course, his wife supported him in those acts of charity. I shall always miss his smile,’’ Precious said.

On Thursday morning, Chipinge woke up to receive tragic news once again.

Mr Nkomo (54) had died unexpectedly. He leaves behind five children and a wife.

His sister, Mrs Brigita Mundeta, who is also a teacher at Chipinge High School, could not hide her dejection and grief at the passing on of her brother.

“He was a pillar in our family and the short illness that claimed his life left us devastated.

“He was a loving father to his children. May his soul rest in eternal peace,’’ she mourned.

One of the education inspectors in Chipinge, Mr Leonard Makwambeni, said the two teachers had shown immense potential and a spirit of hard work during the time they dispensed their duties.

“Those men were extremely dedicated. With such type of people at the helm, the district continued to improve in its pass rate.

“May their souls rest in peace,’’ he said.
