ZANU PF says it has not reinstated Robert Nyemudzo but has appointed Enock
Porusingazi in his place. This is contrary to media reports that he had been reinstated to stand.
In a brief statement to journalists yesterday, ZANU PF national political commissar Cde Mike Bimha said the constituency will now be represented by Cde Enock Porusingazi, who initially came second in the internal polls.
“The Politburo has disqualified the candidature of Robert Nyemudzo of Chipinge South and as a result of that, Cde Enock Porusingazi becomes our candidate for the constituency,” he said, without further clarification.
After initially winning the primary election, Cde Nyemudzo was arrested on allegations of brewing illicit beer and drug peddling at Checheche Growth Point, leading the party to nullify his victory. Nyemudzo was recently dragged to court for contravening the Harmful Liquids Act (Chapter 9:10), and was remanded out of custody to tomorrow.
Last week, the Politburo endorsed the final list of candidates who will represent the revolutionary party in the upcoming harmonised elections.
