THE Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZimParks) board have re-appointed prominent Bulawayo businessman Mr Charles Chiponda to the Rhodes Matopos Committee.
A letter dated 22 February 2019 and signed by ZimParks director-general Mr Fulton Mangwanya confirms the appointment of Mr Chiponda as a member of the committee.
Mr Chiponda is the past president of the Zimbabwe Institute of Management as well as that of the Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce (Matabeleland chapter) and a central committee member of Zanu-PF Bulawayo Province.
The Rhodes Matopos Committee is chaired by Mrs Thandiwe Nkomo-Ebrahim, the daughter of struggle icon Dr Joshua Nkomo.
Mr Chiponda expressed hope that his business background would bring about positive change to ZimParks.
“I am into politics but my background is all business and economics . . . I will do my best to impart my business knowledge to the board and hopefully my contribution will go a long way in making sure that ZimParks as a parastatal performs better because a lot of parastatals haven’t been performing well over the years. President Emmerson Mnangagwa has put out the clarion call that business should come first and looking at the situation now in the country everyone is geared towards economic transformation therefore I am somebody who is well placed in business and economics,” he said.
