However, the outspoken gaffer, who watched his side take a 33rd minute lead through Trevor Ndlovu before Isaac Masame restored parity in the second half, conceded that the turbulent week had affected his charges’ focus.
“We got serious allegations being levelled against us following the Dynamos game and that is not an ideal environment to operate in and today there were signs that some of the boys have really been affected. On my part I am a man, I am still standing and will soldier on because some of these boys are here because of a pledge I made to them. In this business it’s either they break or you break them,” he said.
In giving Chiredzi the lead, Ndlovu collected possession from just outside the box and fired a dipping shot that left Hwange goalkeeper Takabva Mawaya stranded.
The home side went on to miss a series of chances and were duly punished in the 66th minute when Masame, who was fed by the exciting Rodwell Chinyengetere, beat Steven Chimusoro with a long-range effort.
Hwange coach Nation Dube had misgivings about the match officials.
“This is a game we should have won, but other factors came into play. The referee (Rugare Kusosa) was not consistent with his calls,” he said.
Meanwhile, at Luveve visiting Harare City held How Mine to a goalless draw.
A late strike by Lincoln Saramaya carried the day for Black Rhinos and their under-pressure coach Arthur Tutani.
