Chiredzi Town Council to revamp beerhall

Chiredzi Town Council will spend more than US$20 000 to refurbish the loss-making Chigarapasi Beerhall, which used to be a major source of revenue for the local authority. Chigarapasi, reputed to be Zimbabwe’s largest beerhall – has seen better days following the dilapidation of coldrooms, toilets, roofing and the general outlook.

At a full council meeting last Thursday, Chiredzi finance director Mr Moses Rukara said: “Chigarapasi has been operating at a loss for the past four months.

“As we speak we have 90 crates of Chibuku which have gone sour and they must be disposed of because Delta Beverages has requested for its empty bottles. This is a loss because we have to pay for this beer.”

The full council adopted a resolution to renovate Chigarapasi in line with modern leisure trends rather than shut it down.
“We will purchase new television sets, renovate toilets, repair damaged ceilings, paint the entire beerhall, roof,  the band stage and avail two water tanks,” said Mr Rukara.
