THE Chirozvani Family UK Soccer Tournament spokesperson Leonard Chirozvani said everything in now in place for them to host the inaugural event at Charandura Growth Point in Chirumhanzu tomorrow.
The tournament, which is the brainchild of Chirozvani brothers, Leonard, Timothy “Musoja” and Lewis, in conjunction with Kit Aid UK and partnered with Leorose, PJ Scouting Agency London as well as AFC Wimbledon, will see four schools battling it out for trophies, football jerseys and medals.
The former players, who are now resident in the United Kingdom, said St Joseph Primary School will host the tournament which they would want to be an annual event.
Leonard said they are ready to host the tournament and are looking forward to a successful event.
“All is now in place as we have managed to engage all the parties from the teachers, the Ministry of Education, chiefs and the police, among all the stakeholders. We are looking forward to unearth raw talent at this tournament and help people back home from where we came from.
“There is a lot of untapped talent in the rural areas and we are trying to give them a platform to showcase their talent. I believe there will be more scouts where some raw talent can be identified. Having done my primary education at St Joseph, I am looking forward to give back to the community there. I think there is need to promote sports in the rural areas,” Leonard said.
Going with the theme ”Supporting Grassroots Soccer”, the Chirozvani brothers are not limiting themselves to football alone as they are looking forward to promote underprivileged students in Chirumanzu and beyond.
Timothy, who played for Blackpool and CAPS United, said they also want to have an academy which will give opportunities to the rural folk.
“Playing professional football does not come easily and there are many talents out there so we will have an academy aimed at capturing potential students in all sport codes be it athletics or netball. We were fortunate to play at the highest level but we were not the best but it was through exposure so we need to give back to the community where we came from,” said Timothy.
Tomorrow’s tournament will have four schools, namely St Joseph, Chikowere, Nyautonge and Chapwanya, battling it out for the top honours.
Matches will start at 11am
