Mr Chirume would fill a vacant left by former CEO Mr Emmanuel Munyukwi last year. Acting CEO Mr Martin Matanda, a preferred candidate by the board, is said to have refused to take the post.

“We have negotiated and we now wait for him to append his signature, mostly likely on Thursday,” said one source.”

ZSE board chairperson Ms Eve Gahadzikwa said her board would make an announcement at an “appropriate time.” “It is not a secrete that we are looking for a substantive chief executive but at the moment, I can not disclose the people we are considering or a person we have settled on,” she said.

“But at an appropriate time…when we have something to say, we will certainly make an announcement.”

Mr Chirume could not be reached for a comment but indications were that he could sign a five year contract later today. There were also indications that the ZSE could make announcement later today.
