Two Chitungwiza Town Council officials were dragged to court over the weekend on criminal abuse of duty charges.

Morris Kwanisayi and Kennedy Dube appeared before Harare magistrate Stanford Mambanje on Saturday.

Kwanisayi is the sewage technician, and was the acting director of works when the offence was committed.

Dube is the district officer and was employed as the acting housing director.

The court heard that on August 16, 2010, the complainant was offered a residential stand in Chitungwiza.

In March 2014, the complainant developed the residential stand through the guidance of the Makoni District Planning Office up to window level.

In June 2015, the complainant left for South Africa in search of greener pastures and left the stand under a caretaker.

In 2016, the duo decided to sell the stand and instructed their assistant, Tendai E Mandihlare, to assess the status of the stand.

Mandihlare visited the site and submitted a report which indicated that the area was built and recommended that the area be serviced.

The duo disregarded Mandihlare’s report and went on to allocate it to one Brighton Garura.
