A 20-YEAR-OLD MAN from Chitungwiza has been jailed for trying to redefine fatherhood.
While most expectant fathers are busy planning baby showers and assembling cribs, Carlos Makore took a more unorthodox approach to providing for his family: robbery.
He stole a Samsung A52 mobile phone and a wallet that had US$10.
He appeared at the Chitungwiza Magistrates’ Court, where he was found guilty of robbery.
He told the court:
“I wanted to use the money to buy preparation since my wife is pregnant.”
While Makore’s intentions might have been pure, the law, unfortunately, does not recognise the nuances of such purportedly selfless acts.
Makore was sentenced to 12 months in prison.
However, two months were suspended on condition he would not commit a similar offence within five years.
It was proved that on November 8, around midnight, along Denga Road in Zengeza, Makore and his accomplices, who are still at large, waylaid Ngonidzaishe Choruwa.
His two colleagues held Choruwa, while he took a Samsung A52 mobile phone and a wallet that contained US$10.
Makore was arrested on November 10.
Only the cellphone was recovered.
As Makore begins life behind bars, he needs to learn a critical lesson: Crime is not the solution to life’s many challenges.
His attempts to be a super dad, if he is to be believed, backfired spectacularly.
His baby will now be born whilst he is doing time.
As they say, crime really does not pay.
