Chitungwiza duo dies in Buhera drowning mishap

A DARING attempt to cross an overflowing bridge ended in tragedy after two Chitungwiza solar company sales ladies died when their vehicle was swept away on Friday afternoon in Buhera.

National police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident.

Commissioner Nyathi said: “On January 16, 2026 at around 2.30pm, Rebecca Midzi, aged 22 of House Number 17188, Maware, Zengeza 2, Chitungwiza, employed by Paino Tech Solar Company based in Chitungwiza as sales lady and Panashe Mutsvari aged 25, who resides at House Number 601, Mutetwa and was also employed by Paino Tech Solar Company as a sales lady were driving along Murambinda – Betera Road heading towards Murambinda.

“Midzi was driving a white Nissan NV200 with one passenger on board.
They were going to Hukuimwe Village under Chief Nyashanu, Buhera where they were staying.
“They approached Chadzire Bridge which was overflowing and attempted to cross. As they were crossing the bridge, their vehicle was swept away and they drowned.”

Commissioner Nyathis said no foul play is suspected.

“The bodies were retrieved by Washington Hamandishe of Hamandishe Village, Aspa Mukoneri of Masvingo Village, Jasman Hamandishe of Hamandishe Village and Wirimai Chikafu of Chikafu Village all under Chief Nyashanu, Buhera.
“Godfrey Kazingize who is also employed by Paino Tech Solar Company, Chitungwiza reported the matter to the police and ZRP Murambinda attended the scene.
“The bodies of the deceased were taken to Murambinda Mission Hospital mortuary. No foul play is suspected and the postmortem was waived by magistrate, Mr Tendai Mahwe,” said Commissioner Nyathi.
The national police spokesperson said the vehicle is still stuck in the river.
