CHITUNGWIZA Mayor Councillor Rosaria Mangoma has launched the Mayor’s Christmas Cheer Fund, which she said extends beyond the walls of the municipality.
Speaking at the launch last week, Clr Mangoma said it was a call to action for the corporate sector, local businesses, community leaders and residents to open their hearts and lend a helping hand to the less privileged.
“Together we can ensure that everyone in Chitungwiza experiences the true spirit of Christmas: Love, generosity and hope,” she said.
Clr Mangoma said every act of kindness, no matter how small, had the power to transform a life.
“A simple donation, a shared message or a kind gesture can bring light and joy to someone’s festive season,” she said.
“Let us give meaningfully, knowing that our collective efforts will make a lasting difference.”
Cllr Mangoma said the municipality’s goal is to assist at least 500 beneficiaries up from 450 households that received grocery hampers last year.
“Our focus remains on supporting vulnerable individuals and selected care institutions across Chitungwiza,” she said.
Cllr Mangoma said the council’s social welfare office will oversee the identification of beneficiaries to ensure transparency, accountability and equitable distribution of all contributions.
She said contributions to the cheer fund will remain open until December 19, when donated items will be distributed.
“On that day, we will also take time to recognise and reward our biggest donors in appreciation of their outstanding generosity,” said Clr Mangoma.
