CHITUNGWIZA Municipality is looking forward to continuing with its sewer rehabilitation projects and completing the rehabilitation of Zengeza and PaGomba outfall in the new year.

Council spokesperson Mr Tafadzwa Kachiko said the municipality was disturbed by the rains, but it had made significant strides in the rehabilitation, with 800mm pipes having been laid.

“Going into 2026, we look forward to carrying on with rehabilitation projects of sewer as our sewer system is outdated and at some points there are collapsed lines, so we are going to rehabilitate 7,6 kilometres of sewer lines starting with the Upper Seke outfall,” he said.

“So rehabilitation of sewer will be a priority and the proposed allocation of ZiG 5,7 million was made in our budget,” he said.

Mr Kachiko said Chitungwiza Municipality was also looking forward to improving water supply in residential areas.

“Chitungwiza does not have its own source of water but an improved supply will come through the replacement of major water valves.

“We would want to replace a maximum of 10 valves, and we believe that if we replace these valves, there would be improved supply in all suburbs as we would be able to properly ration water to different locations in Chitungwiza,” he said.

Mr Kachiko said Chitungwiza Municipality looks forward to installing six bulk water meters to improve water management and reduce losses.

“The first project seeks to reduce water losses, ultimately improving water supply,” he said.

Mr Kachiko said they also look forward to establishing a drug and substance abuse day care centre at Utano, addressing the growing social challenge in the community, the issue of drugs.

He said the municipality also looks forward to starting the project of establishing clinics.

“But in projects like this, we are looking for public and private partnerships. If there are any players interested in partnering with Chitungwiza in the establishment of clinics, they are welcome,” said Mr Kachiko.

He said Chitungwiza intends to install solar tower lights and to start the installation of solar street lights.

Mr Kachiko said they intend to improve their engagement with the public.

“We also have a digital communication transformation project where, working with our IT, we will establish portals for citizens to interact with the council and this is going to be an ongoing project,” he said.

Mr Kachiko said achievements in 2025 include the procurement of an excavator and tow trucks, rehabilitation of Zengeza sewer outfall, which is ongoing and saw the commencement of the rehabilitation exercise and rehabilitation of some spots, paving of intersections that were not trafficable and pothole patching along some roads that were in a bad state.
