COUNCILLORS from Chitungwiza, Harare and Epworth yesterday bade farewell to Chitungwiza Proportional Representation Councillor Tarisai Chikukwa, who died last Saturday.
A church service was held at St Agnes Parish in Chitungwiza yesterday, followed by her burial at Zororo Memorial Centre in the afternoon.
Chitungwiza mayor, Councillor Rosaria Mangoma, said: “We are here today at Zororo Memorial Centre for the burial of Clr Tarisai Chikukwa.
“She was elected in 2023. We worked very well with her.”
Clr Chikukwa was the chairperson of the ICT Committee.
“She was brave and dedicated to leading the ICT committee for Chitungwiza Municipality,” she said.
Chitungwiza Proportional Representation Clr Agatha Mujati said she had known Clr Chikukwa since 1997, when they were still at school, until they later joined politics.
“She was very loyal. It’s sad that Clr Chikukwa is no more because she had hopes and dreams for a better Chitungwiza and a better life for youths.
“She had so much hope for what Chitungwiza should be. We hope that as councillors, we will be able to continue with the cause for Chitungwiza to be fully digitalised,” she said.
Another Proportional Representation Clr, Cynthia Pewula, who used to live in the same ward as Clr Chikukwa, described her as a loving person who did not hold grudges.
“I am hurt. We used to travel together.
“Chitungwiza has lost a heroine,” she said.
