Chiweshe lands job at Swaziland club

Chiweshe was invited for interviews by the club last week and will take over the reins from the outgoing coach Mlamuli Zwane who resigned just before the start of the pre-season training.

According to Times of Swaziland newspaper, Chiweshe was expected to sign a contract and was also set to be introduced to the club’s management committee on Monday, although terms of the agreement have been kept under wraps.

Chiweshe had been keeping a low profile since he returned home in March after quitting his post at Gaborone United in Botswana in a huff.

“Chiweshe was expected to start training with the team yesterday afternoon at their Trade Fair Ground,” wrote the Times of Swaziland.

Manzini Wanderers will become the second team to be coached by Chiweshe outside Zimbabwe after the former freekick specialist had a stint with Gaborone United in Botswana but left the club in March this year following a clash with some board members.

Manzini Wanderers are one of the oldest football clubs in the mountain kingdom after being founded in 1957 and have won the domestic championship six times.

In Swaziland, Chiweshe will join his compatriot Lloyd Mutasa who is coaching another top Swazi side Green Mambas.

Chiweshe led Dynamos to the mini-league phase of the Caf Champions League in 2009 and also guided the Harare giants to successive runner-up spots in the Premiership with Motor Action just edging his side for the championship on goal difference after the two teams were tied on points in 2010.

Chiweshe left DeMbare in December 2010 after enduring a difficult time to appease the club’s fans despite finishing second in the championship race after losing out to Motor Action on goal difference.

The Dynamos management then settled for Mutasa following Chiweshe’s departure.

Chiweshe had been elevated from being the juniors coach to replace David Mandigora who took DeMbare to a league and cup double in 2007 and to the 2008 Caf Champions League semi-finals.

Mandigora also guided Dynamos to a runner-up place behind Monomotapa in the local Premiership in 2009.

When Chiweshe took over from Mandigora, it had been his second spell at      the Glamour Boys after the coach had quit in 2003.
