MUSIC producer and veteran guitarist, Clive Mono Mukundu, says the Chiwoniso Maraire commemoration gig was a huge success.
Mukundu was among the line-up of artists who performed at the gig last weekend in the capital.
Other artists, who took part, included Chiwoniso’s daughter, Chengeto Brown, and Victor Kunonga.
Mono shared a video on social media showing how successful the gig was under the caption:
“The Chiwoniso commemoration gig lived up to its expectations.
“Unfortunately I was not able to capture all the acts that performed.
“I jammed with Tendai Mavengeni & Victor Kunonga.
“I think takamira-mira.
“Chengeto gave a good account of herself.
“But, the way her voice sounds like her mother’s voice is frightening.
“The moment she started speaking on the mic, I witnessed a few of Chi’s friends & fans shed tears.
“Thanks to everybody who participated.”
In an interview with H-Metro, Mono said he was pleased with the commemoration show, which lived to expectations.
He believes the gig should be held more often to remember the late mbira icon.
“The show was a huge success. All the artists that were there performed very well.
“It was a great experience to be part of such an event.
“I also think it would be a good idea to always remember Chiwoniso in this way to celebrate her legacy and excellence in music,” said Mono.
Chiwoniso died of pneumonia on July 24, aged 37, at South Medical Hospital.
