PROMINENT entrepreneur and property mogul Dr Philip Chiyangwa was last Friday conferred with an honorary accolade in recognition of his extensive contributions to Zimbabwe’s economic landscape and enterprise development.
The award was presented during the high-profile 2025 Megafest Awards ceremony at the Golden Conifer in Harare, drawing a wide array of entrepreneurs, business leaders, policymakers and captains of industry.
Also recognised with an honorary accolade was Ms Sylvia Choruwa, in celebration of her visionary leadership, exceptional resilience, and outstanding contribution to enterprise development.
The citation for Dr Chiyangwa described him as a “visionary leader” and a “trailblazer” whose business acumen has left an indelible mark on the country’s entrepreneurial community.
The award recognised his influence across multiple sectors, including real estate, manufacturing and large-scale investment.
“Dr Chiyangwa has distinguished himself as a dynamic and resilient entrepreneur whose influence spans multiple sectors, including real estate, manufacturing, and investment.
“His ability to identify opportunities, mobilise resources, and transform ideas into thriving ventures reflects a rare blend of strategic foresight and practical execution,” the citation read.
“Through bold decision-making and an unwavering commitment to growth, he has built and sustained business interests that have contributed significantly to economic development and job creation.
“His entrepreneurial journey is marked by persistence, adaptability and an instinctive understanding of market dynamics — qualities that define true business excellence.”
The ceremony highlighted Dr Chiyangwa’s role as a benchmark for business success, celebrating him as a mentor and inspiration to the next generation of African leaders.
Organisers noted that the award celebrates an enduring legacy of ambition and calculated risk-taking. By demonstrating the value of innovation, Dr Chiyangwa has played a pivotal role in shaping a broader business environment that encourages upcoming entrepreneurs to scale their ventures.
His recognition underscores his status as one of the most influential figures in the country’s private sector history.
In her citation, Ms Choruwa was lauded as a dynamic and forward-thinking entrepreneur whose influence spans retail, warehousing, and real estate.
From humble beginnings, she has successfully built thriving enterprises that have significantly contributed to economic growth.
Her business acumen earned her national recognition, culminating in her 2023 appointment as a Board Advisory Member by the Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprises.
Beyond her commercial success, Ms Choruwa stands as a beacon of inspiration, particularly to the girl child, encouraging young women to dream boldly and rise above limitations.
The Megafest Awards are among Zimbabwe’s most recognised corporate honours, designed to celebrate excellence, innovation, and leadership within local and regional business spheres.
Awards were presented across 42 categories at the ceremony.
Industrialists of the Year, Muhammed Shiraan Ahmed of Mega Market and Eng Pedzisai Tapfumaneyi of Verify Engineering, were both honoured with accolades for their significant impact on national manufacturing.
In the CEO Excellence categories, Mr Never Ncube of Dandemutande and Mr Remigio Nenzou of Allied Timbers led the private and public sector divisions, respectively, with both walking away with Diamond awards.
The banking and finance sector saw Nedbank and ZB Bank dominate the commercial banking segment with diamond and platinum awards, while ZB Financial Holdings and InnBucks MicroBank led the financial services category.
In construction and property, Zimbuild and Zimre Properties were named outstanding organizations in their respective fields, both taking home diamond trophies.
In the public sector, the Zimbabwe National Family Planning Council (diamond) and the City of Victoria Falls (platinum) were recognised as the most outstanding institutions of the year.
The hospitality and retail segments were led by Elephant Hills and Holiday Inn, while Gain Cash & Carry was named the outstanding retail organisation of the year.
Under entrepreneurial and academic excellence, Mr Emmanuel Chitowamombe of Kopje Spares and Ms Diana Mamombe of Dibcon Group were celebrated as the year’s outstanding male and female entrepreneurs.
Harare Polytechnic and the Zimbabwe Institute of Management topped the academic category, with the latter’s Godfrey Sunguro named Outstanding Education Leader of the year.
Additionally, Fidelity Life Medical Aid Society and Zarephath Group secured diamond trophies for their contributions to health insurance and private medical services.
The Megafest Awards continue to be a benchmark for corporate success in Zimbabwe, celebrating leaders who demonstrate innovation, strategic foresight and a commitment to job creation.
The accolade celebrates not only individual achievements but also the enduring impact of role models and trailblazers who remain champions of entrepreneurship across Zimbabwe and beyond.
