ZIFA president Philip Chiyangwa yesterday visited Barbourfields Stadium for the first time before paying a courtesy call on Bulawayo City FC and Highlanders.
Chiyangwa briefly watched Bulawayo City’s training session in the company of Zimbabwe National Supporters’ Association president Eddie Chivero, before heading to the Highlanders’ offices and Zifa regional office.
Chiyangwa described Barbourfields as magnificent.
“It’s a brilliant facility with a nice turf. I saw the players training there and it was wonderful. I, however, was once there a very long time ago when I was working in this city for Dunlop,” he said.
“At Highlanders, I met Peter Dube and his executive. Gumede (Ndumiso) was also there. My call to these clubs though is to make sure they facilitate for their players to get housing stands; it will not be a problem for the municipality team because they own the land,” said Chiyangwa.
The Olympics-bound Mighty Warriors’ players were all given housing stands for their feat and also for qualifying for the African Women Cup of Nations.
The Zifa president said they will assist in sprucing up the regional office so that it can accommodate various affiliates.
“I assured Musa Mandaza (Southern region chairman) that we’re going to assist in extending this office and also furnishing it. The company that leases furniture to our head office has agreed that it will extend that gesture to all our offices,” said Chiyangwa.
