A MUTARE man chocked his brother while he was asleep as he accused him of being stingy.
Timothy Mutemachani appeared before Mutare magistrate, Mr Xavier Chipato, applying for a protection order against his brother, Oliver Magwenzi.
Magwenzi was in default and Mr Chipato granted the protection order in Mutemachani’s favour.
Mutemachani said his brother is accusing him of neglecting him.
“He saw me relaxed with my friends at a local bar and he confronted me demanding to know why I had spent all the money from my tobacco project without giving him anything.
“He said I was heartless and selfish. He said I had abandoned the family to spend lavishly with my friends. He also accused me of wizardly. I had to move to the next bar to avoid further confrontations with him. I realised that he was baying for my blood,” said Mutemachani.
He also said Magwenzi struck him with a stone and threatened to kill him.
“He struck me with a stone on my back. I was badly hurt.
“He frequently visits my homestead, threatening to kill me. He shouts obscenities at me. I no longer have peace at my house and my wife is equally scared of him,” he said.
Mutemachani also said while asleep, he was once chocked by his brother who had bulldozed his way into his bedroom.
“I do not know how he opened the door. I only found myself failing to breathe. He was strangling me. I was saved by my wife who wrestled with him.
“When he loosened the grip, I bolted out of the house. I am not staying in my house because I am scared that he will strike again and kill me,” said Mutemachani.
He added that he took up the issue with their other siblings, but they failed to resolve the matter.
“I engaged my sister in Dangamvura and the other one in Rusape about the incident, all to no avail. Magwenzi snubbed the family meeting where the issue was to be tabled,” he said.
The protection order granted by Mr Chipato bars Magwenzi from harassing, assaulting, threatening, insulting and intimidating his brother.
