Two Chigodora brothers are not seeing eye to eye as they are both claiming ownership of their mother’s property, even though she is still alive.
The land dispute which has spilled into Headman Chigodora’s court has seen the mother of the two, Gogo Margaret Magada, threatening to disown her sons, Allen and Prince Nyakuambwa.
The bad blood has also seen Prince spilling the beans that Allen has his own father.
Prince boldly told Allen that he should pack his bags and look for his father.
As a result, Prince dragged his mother and sibling to the community court, demanding to know his biological father.
The conflict has caused animosity between the siblings.
The matter has also affected Gogo Magada. During the court session, she said she is stressed out by the situation and said she now fears for her own safety.
Appearing before Headman Chigodora’s court, Allen demanded to know his father.
He said growing up, he never knew that Sekuru Mario Nyakuambwa was not his father as this has been kept as a closely guarded secret.
“My mother left me while I was young to take care of my siblings, including Prince, who was still in primary school. My mother moved to a new place where she still stays up to this day.
“The land we are fighting for belonged to our mother and as the elder brother, I developed it into a conducive home for the family, including Prince who now wants me to leave.
“Growing up, I did not know that we had different fathers. It is only coming out now through Prince. He tells me that the land where we are staying belongs to his father and it was only out of pity that his father acquired a birth certificate for me.
“All along, I knew Mario Nyakuambwa as my father. Even when he relocated to Mozambique after parting ways with our mother, I continued communicating with him. He never told me that he was not my father. Prince chose to be the conveyor of this news and is trying to send me packing.
“However, I am also reliably informed that the land was bought by our mother and not our father. This means that we both have rights over the land,” said Allen.
However, Prince ordered his elder brother to vacate the property.
“I tracked my father and he told me that Allen is not his son. He also told me that the land was bought by both our parents, so I have come to the conclusion that he should vacate so that I can stay there alone,” he said.
Prince challenged his mother to disclose to Allen the whereabouts of his father so that he could claim his inheritance from him.
However, Gogo Magada managed to put her sons in their positions and told them that the land belongs to her.
“Your fathers did not pay a dime as lobola to my parents. During the days I was cohabiting with Prince’s father, I bought the stand with my own savings.
“That is why when we separated, he went away and never set foot on the land. I want the land shared between the two boys. No one should be evicted from the land because I am the sole owner,” she said.
Headman Chigodora ordered the two brothers to co-exist on their mother’s property.
He reprimanded them for disrespecting their mother.
“This is unheard of. Your fathers were this woman’s boyfriends. They gave her nothing except you two hot-headed men. You either go back and live peacefully or risk losing the land to your sisters.
“If you continue exhibiting this wild behaviour, you risk the wrath of your mother if she dies a dejected woman,” ruled Headman Chigodora.
