THREE cases of cholera have been confirmed in Manicaland Province with two suspected cases still under investigation in Mutasa district, an official has revealed.

The Ministry of Health and Child Care has since dispatched rapid response teams to the affected areas of Buhera and Makoni.

In an interview yesterday, Manicaland provincial medical director Dr Patron Mafaune said the ministry was on high alert with medical and other supplies being mobilised and dispatched to affected communities.

“I can confirm that three cholera cases were detected in the province with two cases in Buhera and one in Makoni.

“All three cases are being managed at our district hospitals and patients are in stable conditions,” said Dr Mafaune.

Dr Mafaune said emergency preparedness teams were dispatched in the province and were on high alert for new cases.

Buhera district administrator Mr Freeman Mavhiza confirmed that cases of cholera cases linked to the Harare outbreak have since been isolated and well managed.

“I can confirm that cases in the district are linked to the Harare outbreak and did not originate within the district. The cases have since been managed quite well. The district is safe and our emergency response teams are on high alert.

“We have engaged the Civil Protection Unit as well as all stakeholders in the health and wellness fraternity in strategising emergency response channels . . .”
