Much-loved Zimbabwean actor Chrispen Nyathi who acts as Pastor Charleston on South African telenovela DiepCity is humbled by the Royalty Soapie Awards nominations and has called on people to continue rallying behind him.

The actor who continues to charm TV viewers each week with his character as well as his singing talent, is nominated in the Viewer’s Choice: Best Actor and Outstanding Newcomer categories. He is up against fellow DiepCity actors Nompumelelo Vilikazi (Snenhlanhla); Lebohang Mpyana (Khelina) and Luyanda Shezi (Lu) in the Outstanding Newcomer category. Also nominated in the category are Chad Baai from Arendsvlei and Na-Aymah Ally Samaai from                                                                                           Suidooster.

In the Viewer’s Choice: Best Actor category, Nyathi is nominated alongside fellow DiepCity cast — Akhona Ndlovu (Herbert); Hamilton Dlamini (Bonga); Mduduzi Mabaso (Mgedeza) and Mzikayise Makroti (Fistos) among a whole host of nominees from various dramas.

Popularly referred to as Ngirozi yaMwari by his fans following a scene where he and Mabaso spoke in Shona, Nyathi says he is very excited about the nominations as they are his first.

Speaking from South Africa, an elated Nyathi said the nominations speak volumes of his talent adding that he hopes that his followers will vote for him.

The public can vote for the actor in the recently introduced Viewers Choice: Best Actor category as the other category is not open for voting.

Nyathi says he is already a winner as just being nominated is a major stamp of approval of his acting                                                                                                 prowess.

“It’s now up to Zimbabweans and my followers who I’m banking on to vote for me and make this a success,” he                                                                                   said.

Nyathi said he is on cloud nine as his hard work has been                                                                                                            recognised.

“I’m really overwhelmed as this is the last thing that I expected. I really appreciate this and still cannot believe this is happening,” he said.

Nyathi who is signed under fast-rising Becky Casting Agency paid homage to the agency’s                                                                                                      founder.

“I’m humbled to see how my career has grown over the years from being an up-and-coming actor to being an established actor. I’d like to thank Becky Casting Agency founder Becky for supporting me,” said Nyathi. — @mthabisi_mthire.
