NORTHERN Region Soccer League side MWOS have named the man who captained them last season, Chris Samakweri, as their new team manager.
Samakweri was the heartbeat of the MWOS team which came close to winning a place in the Premiership only for them to be denied by Scottland.
Last week, the club revealed that Samakweri was one of the players who had been released.
However, as H-Metro revealed, he was set to be handed a role within the club’s structures because of his loyalty and discipline.
Yesterday, MWOS announced he was the new team manager.
“We are thrilled to announce that former captain Chris Samakweri is returning to MWOS FC, this time as our new Team Manager.
“After an impactful journey as a player, Chris is stepping into this new role, bringing his passion and leadership back to the club he loves.
“We believe his experience and dedication will be invaluable as we continue to strive for success on and off the pitch”
However, strength and conditioning coach, Davine Mhoya, who is credited with ensuring that gaffer Lloyd Mutasa had a fit squad as MWOS took the race for promotion into the Premier Soccer League to the wire, could be leaving for greener pastures.
It has emerged that Mhoya is wanted by clubs in Mozambique and South Africa.
He has been the MWOS strength and conditioning coach since 2022.
He played as a goalkeeper at Dynamos when the Harare giants were under the guidance of Kalisto Pasuwa.
According to sources, Mhoya is on the verge of being snapped up by Ferroviario da Beira.
“We are happy that one of our own, the fitness trainer Mhoya is getting some interest from regional professional teams from Mozambique and South Africa.
“Mhoya has managed to build a reputation of managing some players who were written off to make them some top players again.
“Players like Chris Samakweri and Wisdom Mtasa who many deemed overweight managed to do well through Mhoya’s fitness schedule.”
