Local gospel artistes are set to launch a charity project which would see them holding live shows across the nation to benefit orphanages and old people’s homes.
The group of gospel musicians referred to as Christian Entertainment was found in 2006 with the aim of spearheading and coordinating various charitable works and had been blossoming for some time before they shelved activities in 2008.
Initial attempts to re-launch the project in 2013 also hit a snag as the project could not find sponsors to lessen the burden on artistes, according to coordinator Silas Chinho.
“The project had been severely crippled by the lack of corporate sponsorship when we had planned to resume last year but now all is well as we have found a partner in the project and the artists themselves are ready to go,” said Chinho.
Chinho, who also happens to be one of the founding members, revealed that their group aims to help the lives of the needy in society as well as giving platforms for upcoming musicians.
“Our shows are specifically targeted to assist orphans and the elderly and even though we last held such shows in 2008, we now look forward to continue from where we left with spreading the gospel and sharing the proceeds with the less privileged.
“The platform is not only to raise funds for our less privileged but is also there to nurture and groom upcoming musicians into the industry,” said Chinho.
The humanity push has seen renowned artists performing together for reasons other than their pockets with names such as Mahendere Brothers, Baba Mechanic Manyeruke, Kudzi Nyakudya, Agatha Murudzwa, Bishop Ollah Juru, Bethany Pasinawako, Sebastian Magach and many others participating in the worthy cause.
Chinho also revealed that this time they were targeting old people’s homes and orphanages in locations where they are set to hold shows.
“This time around we are heading for Gweru and Kwekwe and that is where we hope to pick this year’s beneficiaries from and this time around also hope to rope in even more artists with the likes of Blessing Shumba and Mathias Mhere having already showed their interest to be part of the worthy cause,” said Chinho.
Some of the beneficiaries of the charity shows by Christian Entertainment include Regai Dzive Shiri Children’s home of Bindura as well as Mweya Washe of Mutare with the assistance of businessman Esau Mupfumi.
Chinho noted that it is the responsibility of society to look after the needy and as artists they are playing their role for the betterment of society.
“We are Christians first and then musicians so we want to collectively uplift society and assist society with what we have as artists and above all give back to society as we are now here because of them”, said Chinho.
Meanwhile Chinho is currently working on videos for his album “Jehovah ndiMwari” which was released in 2013.
