TWENTY-THREE orphans between the ages of 9 and 21 years who are resident at Emthunzini Wethemba Children’s Home in Bulawayo yesterday received an early Christmas present when a local company donated groceries worth US$500.
Speaking at the presentation held at the orphanage in Mzilikazi township, Better Drive Car Rental public relations manager, Mrs Patience Dube said the company decided to give a helping hand to orphans resident at Emthunzini Wethemba Children’s Home ahead of the festive season.
Mrs Dube said this festive season is an opportunity for most families to get together and enjoy the Christmas cheer given their vulnerable status in society due to the loss of family and parents.
“We are here today because we are aware that like everyone else in our society, you need the Christmas cheer too. Some of us, including the Chief Executive of Better Drive Car Rental grew up in this neighbourhood which is why we resolved to come here today. You are here because of circumstances that are beyond your control but you too deserve to be happy during this holiday season,” said Mrs Dube.

She said Better Drive Car Rental is committed to making this an annual event. “We would like to make this an annual event. God willing, we will be back next year and maybe going forward, we can do much more for you. We anticipate that resources allowing, we could assist some of you with their school needs,” Mrs Dube told the orphans.
The orphanage’s administrator, Ms Anisa Gochera, welcomed the gesture and called on more corporates to get involved on social activities such as the Better Drive Car Rental donation. The company was established in 2021 and has 10 vehicles with the target market being both domestic and incoming tourists. Mrs Dube told Sunday News that the company is looking to expand into the region.
