GBV can occur in many different forms and the most common are: physical, economical, emotional and sexual.
The list of signs and symptoms is endless ranging from the very obvious to the subtle with no visible signs.
It is important for one to know that they are being violated and take action before the abuse goes too far. Some of the tale-telling signs are the following:
Extreme jealousy and extremely controlling behavior
Being possessive and restricting the victim’s interactions with the outside world
A bad temper normally coupled with verbal abuse and intimidation

Outdated beliefs about the roles of women and men in relationships
Sabotage of birth control methods or refusal to practice safe sex
Discrimination and exclusion from economic opportunities
Controlling all the finances
Abuse of other people, including children
Constant criticism and belittling the victim both publicly and privately
General lack of respect for other people’s rights
Criticizing any ideas and contributions by the victim
Destroying property that belongs to the victim
Demanding to know someone’s password and using tracking devices to monitor their movements, phone calls and messages
Posting damaging information on social media without consent and blackmailing the victim
Lookout for the signs of GBV and prevent the violence before it happens.
