The police have arrested another Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) revenue officer for facilitating the illegal exportation of 37 truckloads of chrome concentre into South Africa through Beitbridge Border Post.
Anthony Madowe (36) is the third official o be arrested this week as officials crack down on illegal activities at the Port of Entry.
Two others, Simon Homera and Kudakwashe Nyatsawu have already been remanded in custody for smuggling a combined 26 trucks of the same contraband.
Madowe has since been charged for Criminal Abuse of Office and has been granted US$200 bail pending trial to August 15 when he appeared before Beitbridge Resident Magistrate Mr Takudzwa Gwazemba.
The state led by Miss Tinayeishe Matenga alleges that the accused person committed the offence in February.
Madowe is accused of not acquitting a Bill of Entry number E2159 which had been used by Zim Alloys to clear its chrome concentrate.
Later in that month he used the same Bill of Entry to facilitate the illegal exportation of 37 truck loaded with a combined 1328 tonnes of chrome concentrate that was being shipped from Mvurwi to a warehouse in South Africa.
As a result, the Minerals Marketing Corporation of Zimbabwe, lost thousands of dollars in export royalties.
The accused was arrested this week during the ongoing investigations around the smuggling of chrome from Zimbabwe to South Africa by road.
