South African security officials are cracking down on illegal migration activities around Limpopo province and they have so far arrested 208 irregular migrants among them Indian, Mozambicans and Zimbabweans.
Limpopo police spokesperson, Colonel Malasela Ledwaba said the group was picked between Thursday and Friday in Sekhukhune district.
“A joint operation executed by the South African Police Service in Limpopo province led to the arrest of 208 undocumented immigrants and recovery of suspected stolen properties at Marble Hall and Groblersdall policing area under Sekhukhune District,” he said.
“The main objective of the operation that commenced in the evening on Thursday at Leeuwfontein and surrounding farms until the next day on Friday was to rid the area of illegal activities in the area.
“A total number of 176 Zimbabweans, 28 Mozambicans and four Indians were taken under police custody for Contravention of Immigration Act”.
Col Ledwaba said the Zimbabweans and Mozambicans comprised of adults and minor children have since been deported.
The Indian, he said, were still in police custody and pending further police investigations and deportation to their home country.
