The police have arrested another Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) revenue officer for facilitating the illegal exportation of 37 truckloads of chrome concentre into South Africa through Beitbridge Border Post.
Anthony Madowe (36) is the third official to be arrested this week as officials crack down on illegal activities at the port of entry.
Two others, Simon Homera and Kudakwashe Nyatsawu, were remanded in custody for facilitating the smuggling of a combined 26 trucks of the same contraband.
Madowe was charged with criminal abuse of office and granted US$200 bail pending trial on August 15 when he appeared before Beitbridge resident magistrate, Mr Takudzwa Gwazemba.
The State, led by Miss Tinayeishe Matenga, alleges that the accused person committed the offense in February.
Madowe is accused of not acquitting a Bill of Entry number E2159 which had been used by Zim Alloys to clear its chrome concentrate.
Later that month, he used the same Bill of Entry to facilitate the illegal exportation of 37 trucks loaded with 1328 tonnes of chrome concentrate that was being shipped from Mvurwi to a warehouse in South Africa.
As a result, the Minerals Marketing Corporation of Zimbabwe lost thousands of dollars in export royalties.
