After starring in hit US Bible-based series A.D. The Bible Continues, Zimbabwean actress Chipo Chung has now snagged a role in a new BBC drama.
The series titled Thirteen debuted on BBC3 last month and is set to run for five episodes.
The British drama television mini-series was created and written by Marnie Dickens. The series centres on Ivy Moxam, played by British actress Jodie Comer, a 26-year-old woman who escapes from the cellar where she has been imprisoned for 13 years.
Chung plays Flo, a woman charged with looking after Ivyas best interests, and tries to keep the press away from the house after she leaves the police station.
The showas creator Dickens says the drama was inspired by her interest in what happens after someone is freed after being imprisoned for a long time.
a?A lot of focus is put on periods of imprisonment and I wondered what happens when someone does miraculously escape, and how it canat possibly be happily ever after,a? the first-time writer says. a?Once I had that idea, I focused on the character of Ivy.a?
The 39-year-old Chung is no stranger to smash hit series as she has managed to get roles in some of the most popular series and movies. The actress featured in such productions as Fortitude, Sherlock, The Politicianas Husband, Camelot, In The Loop, Doctor Who among others.
Her biggest role thus far however has been on A.D The Bible Continues, where the Zimbabwean actress plays the role of one of Jesusa followers, Mary Magdalene, who was one of the more prominent figures at both Jesusa crucifixion and resurrection.
