AFTER frosty weeks of speculation over misused funds, Moses Chunga has resigned as Chiredzi FC head coach.
On Saturday, Chunga had guided Chiredzi to a 1-1 draw against Hwange at Chishamiso.
His decision came after a meeting that took over five hours and Chunga decided to step down yesterday in a meeting that was attended by Zifa Eastern region executive and Chiredzi FC executive, with players represented by captain Fidelis Mangezi and his vice Brighton Pamhirwa.

Bambo was clearly frustrated with the meeting and was playing on and off. When Chunga rejoined the meeting after more than half an hour outside, he lashed out at the executive labelling them as cowards. He said he was the one who had appointed them.

Chunga said when the team was disbanded, nobody took action before he took matters into his own hands facing Tongaat management to get the franchise and he felt they worked very hard to get.

“I went to talk to Tongaat myself when it seemed there was never going to be a Premiership football team here in Chiredzi. I picked the guys to represent us and those are the same guys who are claiming that they are now employing me.”

“I have never received anything from them and I am the one who signed each and every player including player registrations but now they cannot even admit that my influence helped the team to be running up to now. All they are doing is trying to tarnish my image in a bid to push me outside the ship,” added Chunga.

“Just imagine travelling to an away game in Bulawayo all the way from Chiredzi with only $50 for 18 players plus technical team and still believe that we got an executive that really cares for us,” lamented Chunga.

Players who were represented by team captains were grieving that the executive was slow in raising funds for their salaries and further angered Chiredzi bosses  when they said they would prefer playing without current leadership if they continue ignoring their welfare.

The squabbles started after the Dynamos game when Chunga collected $4,000 realised from the gate takings. Chunga agreed that he took the money in front of police and team secretary to share it among his players since the players have not received anything for the past six months.

Chunga even tried to get more money realised from the Chiredzi-Hwange match to help his players but was stopped as Chiredzi engaged the police and the money was taken to Chiredzi Police Station before being handed over to the rightful owners  yesterday.

Chiredzi FC boss Charles Muchatukwa refused to comment stating that a full statement will be released tomorrow (today). Zifa eastern region administrator Thaddeus Machawira also refused to comment and referred the matter to his chairman Piraishe Mabhena who also referred the matter back to club chairman.
