THE Twelve Apostolic Church of Christ  is set to discipline “renegade member” Mr Njabulo Ngwenya for allegedly soiling its name.

The church is accusing Mr Ngwenya of breaching the church’s doctrine by engaging in violent actions and charging a fee for prophecy.

The Chronicle yesterday reported that Mr Ngwenya, a self proclaimed prophet was attacked by Mr Vincent Hlatshwayo over the use of church offices in Emakhandeni suburb.

Elders at the Twelve Apostolic Church of Christ yesterday dismissed Mr Ngwenya as a renegade church member saying his actions were against the church’s doctrine.

Bishop Themba Jobe Sibanda and Bishop Josphat Stephen Mpande said Mr Ngwenya was baptised in their church but they do not know Mr Hlatshwayo.

The two bishops said their church does not have a branch in Emakhandeni suburb, distancing themselves from claims by the duo that they were fighting over the use of the church’s premises.

They said the two could have been fighting over the use of the bushy area where people go to pray which is known as the “wilderness” in their circles.

Bishop Mpande said on Sunday the church’s leadership will discuss how to deal with Mr Ngwenya who they claim was abusing the church’s name.

“There will be a meeting on Sunday to resolve the issue of his status. The executive board of ministers will meet to discuss because what he is doing is against the church’s doctrine. We don’t condone violence, we don’t condone fighting, we don’t condone unauthorised wilderness prayers,” said Bishop Mpande.

Bishop Sibanda weighed in saying Mr Ngwenya was abusing the church’s name as he demanded payment for praying for people.  “As a church we pray and prophesy for the people but we don’t charge anything. We pray for the sick but our doctrine doesn’t allow us to charge anyone. We have a recording and an audio of him soliciting for clients,” said Bishop Sibanda.

Mr Ngwenya could not be reached for comment yesterday but on Tuesday said he was attacked by Mr Hlatshwayo after he asked him to lower his voice as he was distracting others who wanted to pray.—@nqotshili
