THE African Methodist Episcopal Church’s Women Missionary Society donated school wear and stationery to more than 28 underprivileged pupils at Mfanyana Primary School in Ntabazinduna, Matabeleland North on Friday.
The organisation, which comprises church stations under the banner of Matabeleland East District, handed over the donation to pupils which comprised 28 uniforms, 22 satchels, seven pairs of shoes and stationery.
Mfanyana Primary School headmistress, Mrs Mpho Ndondo said she was grateful for the kind gesture.
“I am overwhelmed by what the church has done for the pupils considering the fact that some of the pupils have never had uniforms and some have been walking to school bare- footed. Not only did the church donate to the pupils but they also donated some pairs of shoes to teachers, sheets of manilla, dusters, textbooks and chalks.
Mrs Josephine Ginya, the president of WMS Matabeleland East District, said they were following the teachings from the bible to assist those in need.
“Our mission is to help under-privileged children in areas where we worship in. We are not only looking at schools or children that attend our church, but we are in the process of identifying more children even those who do not attend the AME Church,” she said, adding that resources to buy the uniforms, shoes and teaching material were donated by church members and other well-wishers.
The presentation ceremony was also attended by parents with children at the school.
