Church-given lover troubles old man

CHURCH given a?wifea? a pain!

Pendros Gumbo Mfugami, from Queens Park suburb in Bulawayo took Siphiwe Shumba, whom he says was a?donateda? to him by the church, to court.

But Shumba accused Mfugami of breaching a promise to marry her even though he has a subsisting marriage with another woman.

a?Siphiwe Shumba has been my girlfriend and I no longer want her because of her violent behaviour. She is always insulting and threatening to kill me.

a?She forcibly took my money amounting to $370 after she threatened me with an empty beer bottle and knobkerrie. That money was meant for rent.

a?She is also harassing me while accusing me of wasting her time when I told her that we should end our relationship. I never proposed to her but she was given to me by the church elders who felt I needed someone to assist me since I am now old,a? he said.

His remarks, however, angered Shumba who vowed that Mfugami should compensate her for wasting her time.

a?I do not agree with everything he said in this court. We were staying as husband and wife after he promised to marry me. He was always saying he will never let me down and I want him to fulfill his promise.

a?He is now lying against me that I am abusing him simply because he has failed to fulfill his promise to marry me. If he wants me to leave him he should give me a lot of money as compensation for wasting my time.

a?He also lied that he never proposed to me. He is the one who actually proposed love to me and I accepted after he promised to marry me,a? she said.

Presiding magistrate Sheunesu Matova, before the ruling in which he ordered both parties to keep peace with each other, advised Shumba that if she wanted compensation from Mfugami for wasting her time she was free to sue him for that false promise of marriage.
