DEMA Methodist Church in Zimbabwe leader, Reverend Shadreck Madzvamuse, has hailed the Government for its efforts in fighting cholera under the Presidential Borehole Drilling Project.
The Government, in partnership with Prevail Group, is planning to drill 350 000 boreholes throughout the country under the project.
Prevail Group is already drilling boreholes in Harare and Bulawayo to combat cholera, which has hit the country’s two biggest cities, and it is planning to extend its services into other areas.
In an interview with H-Metro at the commissioning of a solar-powered borehole in Dema at the weekend, Rev Madzvamuse applauded the Government for its efforts to provide clean water to rural communities.
“Water is a right for all of us and we are grateful to the Government which has drilled this borehole for us in Dema.
“With the cholera outbreak, we hope such projects will benefit of communities. We are grateful to have a clean source of water in this community and urge people to safeguard this borehole,” he said.
Prevail group chairman, Paul Tungwarara, who is spearheading the Presidential Boreholes Drilling Project, said all the materials needed for the Harare and Bulawayo boreholes have been procured.
“Our team is now on the ground doing water tests so that they can install the projects immediately.
“For now we are doing Harare and Bulawayo since we were instructed to do so. We will proceed to other areas and ensure that every village has a borehole drilled there,” he said.
