BRAYDEN Raynars successfully defended his Mashonaland Junior Squash Under-19 boys’ championship at St Johns College yesterday.
Raynars won the tournament after defeating Rukudzo Midzi 3-1 in a tough final.
The St George’s College student won the battle that marked the end of the first tournament of the season.
Raynars said he was happy with the win and is now looking forward to the Zimbabwe Nationals to be held early next month.
“It was a big win for me and I am happy that I managed to defend my title. The competition was tough, but with the support from my family, I managed to pull through.
“The court was playable and I believe this was one of my toughest finals. I feel great as I started the season on a winning note.
“The tournament went on well and I continue to work hard and prepare for coming tournaments,” said Raynars.
Midzi, who had a good game, said he is happy to have reached the final and is looking forward to more national tournaments.
“I am very happy that I managed to reach the final of such a big tournament. As the first tournament of the year, it gave me a chance to see where I need to improve. The tournaments are coming and I look forward to continue working hard.”
In the Under-16 boys’ category, Brette Raynars, also from St George’s, managed to defend his title.
In the Under-19 girls’ category, Bella Mella from Hellenic College also successfully defended her title.
